The city's border location makes it an ideal venue for academic programs and research studies on topics of national interest such as bilingual education/language acquisition, Hispanic health disparities, border environment and immigration, environmental sustainability and infrastructure, and international trade and commerce.About the Department:The UTEP Philosophy Department has a long tradition of supporting work in Ethics, Political Philosophy, Philosophy of Science, and Latin American Philosophy. The department seeks to deepen and expand the work of its graduate students in these areas. The department sustains an active research faculty and an MA program in philosophy, which has successfully placed several graduates in high-level PhD programs.Job Description:The UTEP Philosophy Department invites applications for a one-year, full-time Visiting Assistant Professor beginning Fall 2026.Area of specialization: Open. Area of competence: Open, but the department has teaching needs in Social-Political Philosophy and the History of Philosophy (Ancient, Modern, Twentieth Century). The appointed faculty will be expected to teach a large section of Introduction to Philosophy or Introduction to Ethics each semester. The teaching load is 3/3 per semester.Requirements:ABD applicants are welcome, but a Ph.D. by August 31, 2026 is required. Experience working with diverse student populations and first-generation students are both highly desirable.Application Instructions:Review of applications will begin immediately and continue until the position is filled.
